Javed Miandad gives shocking verdict on Sunil Gavaskar
Javed Miandad praises Sunil Gavaskar’s style of play and approach
One of Pakistan’s cricketing legends, Javed Miandad is one of the greatest batsmen in the history of cricket. His unconventional style of batting is a catch for many fans of cricket. He captained Pakistan national team as well. His biggest contribution was at the 1992 ICC World cup, where he performed brilliantly with the bat.
Javed Miandad has been the coach of Pakistan’s cricket team on three occasions and also holds key positions on the Pakistan cricket board.
Miandad explains how fierce and courageous was Sunil Gavaskar who played with exceptional technique. How the current players can learn by watching the videos of Sunil Gavaskar play.
“It was amazing that given his short height, how well he played all over the world. His consistency and performances are remarkable,” Miandad said

Miandad refered to Gavaskar’s height, who many thought was a limitation but, how Gavaskar used it as one of his strengths.
“Players nowadays can learn so much from watching his videos. See how he coped with the fast bowlers despite his short height. He played in an era where he faced the most fearsome pace bowlers in the West Indies, England, Australia, New Zealand and even against Pakistan and yet he was successful.”
He said about his battle on the pitch with Miandad and how strongly focused was Gavaskar.
“I enjoyed watching him bat. I remember I used to field close to him and keep chattering away to distract him as his level of concentration and focus was so high. There were times when I managed to disturb his focus and when he got out he always used to leave cursing me and I enjoyed it.”
Miandad also reminds of Gundappa Vishwanath, Sunil Gavaskar’s brother in law, played in the same team, and how lucky Indian Cricket was to have both these batsmen at their helm.
