England’s legendary pacer, James Anderson, has made a surprising announcement by listing himself for the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction, set for November 24-25 in Jeddah. The 42-year-old fast bowler, who retired from international cricket as the most successful Test pacer with 704 wickets, aims to deepen his understanding of T20 cricket by entering the Indian Premier League. Anderson, who last played a T20 match in 2014 and has never participated in the IPL, has set his base price at Rs 1.25 crore.
Reflecting on his decision, Anderson told BBC that he still feels he has “more to give as a player.” The Burnley Express shared that his motivation for joining the IPL isn’t just to bowl and expand his coaching and mentoring knowledge, having already worked with the England team in a mentoring role. Anderson added, “I think experiencing the IPL could open my eyes and enhance my cricket knowledge, which will help me down the road.”
Anderson’s storied career includes 188 Test appearances, making him the third-highest wicket-taker in Test history, only trailing behind Muttiah Muralitharan and Shane Warne. Known for his adaptability, Anderson hopes the IPL will be a learning opportunity that enriches his playing and coaching careers and prepares him for future roles in cricket.
