IPL 2022: Mumbai and Pune will host 70 matches.
The Indian Premier League 2022 league stage will be played over four stadiums in Mumbai and Pune, with the 10-team edition expected to begin in the fourth week of March this year. The final is expected to take place on May 29. The city of Mumbai will host 55 matches, while Pune will host 15.
The matches in Mumbai will take place at the Wankhede Stadium, the DY Patil Stadium, and the Brabourne Stadium, while the matches in Pune will take place at the MCA Stadium. The league stages have been confined to four sites to guarantee the safety of players, support workers, and other stakeholders in the aftermath of the Covid-19 outbreak. According to India Today, the BCCI may minimise air travel by playing exclusively in Mumbai and Pune.
The IPL Governing Council will convene on Thursday, February 24, and a formal announcement on the venues and fixtures will follow. The play-offs will most likely take place in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
Each club is slated to play four matches in the Wankhede and DY Patil stadiums, as well as three at the Brabourne and MCA stadiums.
Notably, the BCCI’s top brass has expressed confidence that India would host the IPL in 2022. The popular T20 league’s 2020 season was played in the UAE; however, the board brought the 2021 tournament back home. The matches were held in Chennai, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, and Delhi; however, the season was halted because to Covid-19 instances in franchise bio-bubbles. The BCCI continued the season, returning to the UAE for the second leg.
