On Saturday, Hockey India announced a lineup of 33 players for the India ‘A’ Men’s and Women’s core probable groupings. Several former members of the Indian Men’s Hockey Team have recently been appointed as coaches, including former captain Sardar Singh. Debuting coach Deepak Thakur, two-time Olympian, is a former member of the Indian Women’s Hockey Team.
Smt Sujata Chaturvedi, the Sports Secretary of India, and representatives of the appropriate sports federations convened the meeting on February 15 to discuss the preparation of the 2022 Commonwealth Games and 2022 Asian Games.
In announcing the selection of 33 players each for the India ‘A’ Men’s and Women’s core groups, Hockey India President Gyanendro Ningombam said the decision contributed to extending the pool of players eligible for selection to the respective National Teams.

Olympic medalists Rupinder Pal Singh and Birendra Lakra, as well as veteran forward S V Sunil, who made themselves available for selection again for the National team following their retirement earlier in 2021, are among the list of key probables named in the men’s camp. After being named on the Core Probables list, Ramandeep Singh, an accomplished forward, is also available for selection.
