India women fail to beat a struggling England side, stay 3rd
India women met England women in the 2017 world cup final. They were going to battle it out again in the 2022 world cup, when they meet at the Bay Oval.
India are in rich vein of for having secured a thumping 155 run win over West Indies women. Whereas England women had lost all of its 3 matches played and sat second last in the points table, just above Pakistan on net run rate.
Indian team was feeling confident as they wanted to avenge their defeat in the 2017 world cup final. Heather Knight won the toss and asked the Indian women to bat first.
India were off to a shaky start as they lost 3 quick wickets for just 28 runs. Anya Shrusbole being the destructor in chief as she picked up important wickets of Yastika Bhatia and Mithali Raj.
Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur tried to form a partnership and did so till the latter was dismissed by Charlie Dean.
Charlie Dean ended up taking 4 wickets as India were bowled out for a low score of 134.
In reply Jhulan Ghoswami set the tone early as she dimissed Tasmin Beaumont for just 1 run.
This was her 250th wicket in ODI cricket.
Megha Singh then got rid of Danni Wyatt. Skipper Heather Knight and Nat Sciver then settled the nerves as they notched up a 50 run partnership.
Nat Sciver fell just short of a well deserved half century when she was out caught off the bowling of Pooja Vastrakar.
Megha Singh picked up a couple of quick wickets towards the end but it was too little too late as Heather Knight who played a captains knock guided her team to a maiden victory in the 2022 world cup. She scored 53 not out off 72 balls, which included 8 boundaries.
England won the match by 4 wickets with almost 19 overs to spare.
A disappointing outing for the Indian Women who would’ve gone to the second spot had they won this match.
India women now take on an in form Australian side on the 19th of March whereas the defending champions take on the hosts New Zealand womens team on 20th March.
