India Joins the Race to Host the 2036 Olympics
In a groundbreaking step towards achieving Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambition of bringing the Olympic and Paralympic Games to India in 2036, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has formally expressed the nation’s interest. On October 1, the IOA submitted a Letter of Intent to the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Future Host Commission, marking India’s official bid to host the world’s most prestigious sporting event.
Hosting the Olympics in 2036 would offer India vast opportunities for economic growth, social advancement, and youth empowerment, according to a reliable source. Prime Minister Modi, who has long championed India’s goal of hosting the Games, emphasized the importance of this historic bid for the future of Indian sports. During the recent Independence Day celebrations, PM Modi invited feedback from Indian athletes who competed in the Paris Olympics, noting that their insights would be critical in shaping India’s preparations for the 2036 Games.
With Los Angeles set to host the 2028 Olympics and Brisbane slated for 2032, the competition for the 2036 Games is heating up. IOC President Thomas Bach revealed that the interest in hosting has already reached double digits, as India joins other hopefuls, including Mexico, Indonesia, Turkey, Poland, Egypt, and South Korea.
At the IOC’s 141st session held in Mumbai, PM Modi reinforced India’s commitment by stating, “We will leave no stone unturned to bring the Olympics to Indian soil in 2036. This is the long-held dream of 1.4 billion Indians.” President Bach also voiced his support, noting there is a “strong case” for India to host, further strengthening the nation’s position in this global bid.
For India, hosting the Olympics could revolutionize sports infrastructure, fuel tourism, and inspire a new generation of athletes. If successful, the 2036 Olympics would mark a defining moment in India’s sporting legacy, establishing it as a powerhouse on the world sports stage.
