India is lacking a bowling coach : Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain of the Indian women’s team, claimed after her side’s 3-2 loss to Australia in the third T20I that the Indian women’s squad is seriously lacking a bowling coach.

However, the skipper is happy with how the bowlers are rising to the occasion and taking control of the situation. Since Ramesh Powar was transferred to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and Hrishikesh Kanitkar was appointed the team’s batting coach two months before to the T20 World Cup in South Africa, India does not currently have a full-time bowling coach.

As part of their preparation for the T20 championship, the squad will play Australia. On Wednesday, India lost the third game by 21 runs but won the second T20 by Super Over. In each of the past three T20s, India has let up more than 170 runs. The team’s difficulties have only been exacerbated by Pooja Vastrakar’s injury before to the Australia series.

“They are participants in the meetings. They have full responsibility and today (it was) all their plans and they were leading the way, I was just supporting them in the middle. (We are missing) Pooja for sure. On these tracks you need a medium pacer”

Renuka Singh, who has played 30 international matches since making her debut just over a year ago, is in charge of the speed attack while Pooja is out. Also, Harmanpreet said,

“Definitely when you bowl back-to-back spin bowling, it allows opposition batters to settle easily. We are definitely missing Pooja because she has the experience of death-overs bowling. We tried Meghna in the first two games but it didn’t click.

Renuka has the experience because she has done well in the past six-seven months and has got good results. Whenever we set plans for pace bowlers she takes the lead and our video analysts give us a lot of information,”

Anjali Sarvani, a left-arm pacer, made her series debut for India as well. After going without a wicket in the first two T20 games, she picked up two in the third T20 match. The Indian skipper concluded saying,

“The way we bowled in the powerplay, especially Renuka and Anjali (was commendable). They were swinging the ball and bowled according to the plan. They were not giving easy runs to the batters,”

In fact, despite Sarvani and Renuka bowling in tandem, Australia could only muster 26 for 2 in the opening four overs.
