India has risen to the No. 1 spot after thrashing West Indies
India reinforced their T20i domination against the West Indies on Sunday, completing a clean sweep of the three-match T20I series in Kolkata. India won the last T20I by 17 runs, ensuring that the West Indies did not win a single match during their February tour.
Suryakumar Yadav’s magnificent performance of power hitting, and Harshal Patel’s excellent spell of 3/22 helped India score 185 and comfortably defend it to defeat Kieron Pollard’s West Indies.
With their 3-0 T20I series triumph against the West Indies, India has secured the top place in the ICC T20I Rankings. Before the last T20I between India and the West Indies, England led the ICC T20I standings with 269 rating points, while India trailed by one point.
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma made history by becoming the first Indian skipper to lead his side to three or more series whitewashes in T20I cricket. Rohit has previously guided India to victories against Sri Lanka (2017), West Indies (2018), and New Zealand (2021). He is just the third skipper to reach the milestone, behind Pakistan’s Sarfaraz Ahmed (5) and Afghanistan’s Asghar Afghan (4).
Throughout the series, India was clinical with both the bat and the ball. After taking an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the T20I series as early as Friday, India made four changes to their lineup after Virat Kohli, and Rishabh Pant were given a bio-bubble break for the third T20I and the T20Is against Sri Lanka later this month.
Suryakumar Yadav unleashed his sheer strength on his way to a spectacular half-century, and he was strongly backed by Venkatesh Iyer, as India scored a competitive 184 on Sunday.
Suryakumar hammered seven sixes and one boundary in an outstanding performance of clean-hitting before being dismissed for a 31-ball 65 in the penultimate delivery. In the final five overs, India scored 86 runs.
Venkatesh Iyer, a pace bowling all-rounder, stayed unbeaten on 35 off 19 balls with four fours and two sixes at the other end as the duo put up 91 runs off 37 balls for the fourth wicket to help India recover from a small middle-order collapse. captain Rohit struggled at No. 4, scoring only 7 off 15 balls, but India won the match.
