India Capitals Win by 1 Run Against Toyam Hyderabad

India Capitals Start Legends League Cricket Season 3 With Thrilling 1-Run Victory Over Toyam Hyderabad

Jodhpur, September 21, 2024: India Capitals, owned by GMR Group, kicked off their Legends League Cricket Season 3 campaign with a nail-biting 1-run win over Toyam Hyderabad at the Barkatullah Khan Stadium. Setting a competitive total of 185/5, thanks to Ben Dunk’s explosive 60 off 35 balls and valuable late contributions from Ashley Nurse and Colin de Grandhomme, the Capitals defended their score with a disciplined bowling effort. Dunk was named Man of the Match for his standout performance.

Captain Ian Bell chose to bat first after winning the toss in his debut for India Capitals. The team faced early setbacks, losing Dwayne Smith (14 off 9 balls) in the second over and Naman Ojha (26 off 27 balls) by the 8th, leaving them at 47/2. Bell himself struggled to get going, scoring just 7 off 11 balls. However, Ben Dunk’s power-packed knock of 60, alongside key contributions from Nurse (30 off 19) and de Grandhomme (31* off 12), guided the Capitals to a substantial total.

For Toyam Hyderabad, Bipul Sharma and Samiullah Shinwari delivered economical spells, with Shinwari taking 2 wickets for 27 runs.

In reply, Toyam Hyderabad started well, with opener Chadwick Walton (18 off 14) and George Worker (52 off 43) adding 41 runs. Despite Worker’s half-century and a late surge by Peter Trego (38 off 18), Toyam Hyderabad fell short, finishing at 184/7. Mpofu’s brilliant final over and Rahul Sharma’s exceptional 2/21 in 4 overs secured the thrilling win for the Capitals.

India Capitals will face Southern Superstars on September 25 at the same venue.

Match Summary

  • India Capitals: 185/5 (Ben Dunk 60, Colin de Grandhomme 31*, Samiullah Shinwari 2/27)
  • Toyam Hyderabad: 184/7 (George Worker 52, Peter Trego 38, Rahul Sharma 2/21)
