India beat West Indies by 6 wickets in the 1st ODI

The Indian cricket team have bagged their first win of the 3 match ODI series against the West Indies as they beat them by 6 wickets behind closed doors at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The Indian bowling attack showcased an amazing display today and managed to restrict the Windies batting line up to a mere 176 runs. Yuzvendra Chahal had a bowling spell to remember as he managed to get a four-wicket haul at the expense of 49 runs. His teammate Washington Sundar also bowled pretty well and got 3 wickets at the expense of just 30 runs.

Rohit Sharma got his first win as well in his first match as full-time captain of the Indian team. Former captain Virat Kohli also showed his class and maturity as a cricket player and contributed a lot in terms of helping his teammate make the right decisions in his first game as captain. The skipper led by example as well and scored an impressive 60 runs off just 51 balls which set the tone for the run chase from the very beginning.

His opening partner Ishan Kishan also played his part in the run chase by scoring 28 runs off 36 balls. The Windies got a little hope in the game when they managed to get some quick wickets and brought the wicket count to 4. However, credit to Suryakumar Yadav’s composed batting display, all of the hope was diminished as he secured the victory for the Indian team by scoring 34 runs off 36 balls. Overall, it was a comfortable win for the home team and the fans were loving what they were seeing in Rohit Sharma’s first ODI victory as India’s full-time captain.

The camaraderie between two great players was witnessed today as Rohit and Virat showed some good teamwork when Rishabh Pant caught the ball after an edge by Shamrah Brooks bat to which the on-field umpire gave a not out decision. With just seconds left to make a decision for the review, and everyone in doubt, Kohli helped his captain in assuring him that the ball had come off from the bat. Rohit Sharma trusted Kohli’s call and took the review which got the umpire to change his decision. Hence, these are the sign of good things to come as India look to win the 3 ODI series.
