I’m thrilled to be joining the Mumbai Indians: Archer
England bowler Jofra Archer is overjoyed to have joined the five-time champion Mumbai Indians, and he says the team has always been near to his heart since he has always wanted to play for them.
On Day 2 of the IPL super auction in Bengaluru on Sunday, Archer was purchased by the Mumbai Indians for Rs 8 crore. Although Archer will not be able to play in the IPL this season as he recovers from an injury.
The Mumbai Indians saw Archer as one of their heroes in the position vacated by Lasith Malinga, keeping on for the next five to six years and willing to give up one year.
“I am thrilled to be joining the Mumbai Indians; they have always been a franchise that has had a special place in my heart, and I have always wanted to play for them. I am overjoyed to have finally received the chance to play for the franchise and share the dressing room with some of cricket’s biggest names. I’m excited to start a new chapter, “Archer stated in a Mumbai Indians Instagram video.
Mumbai Indians Director of Cricket Operations Zaheer Khan believes it will be worthwhile to wait for Jofra Archer and Jasprit Bumrah to bowl in tandem for the club.
“You, like me, are anxiously awaiting the partnership’s debut on the field. I’m excited to witness two renowned fast bowlers play in tandem, and I’m delighted it appears achievable and will be worth the wait “Zaheer stated.
The Mumbai Indians table erupted in a bidding battle, first with the Rajasthan Royals and then with the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Archer, who was the Most Valuable Player in his inaugural year in IPL 2020, went from a base price of Rs 2 crore to the five-crore club in the blink of an eye. Sunrisers Hyderabad came close with Rs 7 crore but was forced to back down as the Mumbai Indians pursued their guy relentlessly.
In the end, the five-time champions won with an offer of Rs 8 crore.
