ICC Men’s Player of the Month nominees for October 2022 announced
ICC Men’s Player of the Month — one each from India, South Africa and Zimbabwe — have made the shortlist for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month Award for October 2022.
Virat Kohli (India)
Virat Kohli played only four innings last month but he churned out three memorable knocks, including a magical 82* against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup
.As admitted by Kohli himself, it was the best T20I knock he has ever played. India looked down and out of the contest when they were reduced to 31/4 while chasing 160, but Kohli stepped up and played a match-winning hand of 82* from just 53 deliveries to guide them home.
Apart from that, the 33-year-old also played an excellent knock of 49* from just 28 deliveries against South Africa in Guwahati towards the start of the month. He also followed up his majestic knock against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup with another composed 62* from 44 deliveries against Netherlands. His only blip came in Perth when he was dismissed for just 12 against South Africa.
Overall, Kohli amassed 205 T20I runs in October at a mind-boggling average of 205 and an outstanding strike-rate of 150.73.
David Miller (South Africa)
David Miller has been enjoying a sensational run of form this year and he kicked it up a notch higher in October. Miller started the month with a 47-ball 106* in a T20I against India in Guwahati, which unfortunately came in a losing cause, and capped it off with a match-winning 59* against Rohit Sharma’s men once again in Perth, that too on a big stage like the T20 World Cup.
Sandwiched in between these two knocks was another outstanding innings of 75* in an ODI against India in Lucknow. Overall, Miller played seven innings in ODIs and T20Is combined last month and remained unbeaten in six of those.
The left-hander amassed a total of 303 runs in this period at a sensational average of 303 and scored his runs at an equally good strike-rate of 146.37. It looks like Miller has reinvented himself after some tough years and he is turning out to be the most dependable batter for South Africa.
Sikandar Raza (Zimbabwe)
The veteran all-rounder delivered some stellar all-round performances for Zimbabwe in October. Raza carried his rich vein of form forward into the T20 World Cup and showed the world what he is capable of.
He started the month off with a sensational show in their T20 World Cup opener against Ireland. Raza smashed 82 from just 47 balls and went on to claim bowling figures of 1/22 later in the match, helping Zimbabwe get off to a winning start. He went on to deliver another superb all-round show against Scotland as he smashed 40 from 23 deliveries and then went on to register figures of 1/20 with the ball.
