During the ongoing first Test against Pakistan in Multan, young England sensation Harry Brook made history, becoming only the sixth English player to score a triple century in Test cricket. After sharing the highest-ever partnership for England with Joe Root, Brook registered his first-ever triple hundred, joining an elite club of English cricketers who have achieved this milestone in the most extended format.
Brook’s triple century came off 310 balls, making him the second-fastest to reach 300 for England, behind Virender Sehwag, who still holds the overall record for the fastest 300 in Test cricket. Sehwag achieved his triple ton off 278 balls against South Africa in 2008. Brook surpassed Sehwag’s 364-ball triple hundred against Pakistan in Multan in 2004.
Brook’s record-breaking knock places him alongside some of England’s most incredible batters. He follows in the footsteps of Andy Sandham (325), Len Hutton (364), Wally Hammond (336*), Graham Gooch (333*), and Bill Edrich (310*), all of whom scored triple hundreds in Test cricket.
Brook and Joe Root formed a formidable partnership earlier in the match, putting on 454 runs, the highest-ever stand in an England-Pakistan Test match. This partnership surpassed the previous record of 363 runs set by Mohammad Yousuf and Younis Khan in Leeds in 2006. Brook and Root’s colossal effort helped England comfortably surpass Pakistan’s first-innings total of 556.
