Happy Birthday to India’s greatest captain, MS Dhoni
7th July, 1981, was the day when India’s greatest ever captain aka captain cool aka Thala aka Mahendra Singh Dhoni(MS Dhoni) was born.
MS Dhoni is an Indian wicket keeper/ batsman, who is also considered by many as the greatest finisher ever, has gone on to lift multiple trophies in a career that is continuing till date.
Even at the age of 41, MS Dhoni is going strong, as he looks to keep fit and continue playing the game he loves the most.
MS Dhoni’s record as a player is exceptional. In over 530 matches in International cricket, MS Dhoni has scored over 21,000 runs!
Not to discount the fact that Dhoni mostly played the role of a finisher. This makes the stats even more astonishing.
In the Tata IPL 2022, MS Dhoni took over captaincy from Ravindra Jadeja, but was unable to guide them to their 5th IPL title.
As a player, MS Dhoni has won everything. He was the captain that led India to their 1st ever T20 World Cup in 2007, their 2nd ODI World Cup in 2011 and their 2nd champions trophy in 2013.
Dhoni had a golden run as captain, with an unbeaten run in Test series since his captaincy debut, leading them to their first stint as the top-ranked Test team in the world.
The Ranchi born star also led India to the semi finals of the ODI WC in 2015, the semis of the WT20 in 2016 and the finals of the WT20 in 2014. Unfortunately, Dhoni and his men in blue were on the losing side in all of these.
With Dhoni set to continue playing cricket in the IPL for the upcoming season in 2023, it will be a long wait for Thala’s fans, before they get to see the veteran take the bat in hand and dictate the field of play from behind the stumps.
