For the Sri Lanka T20I series, Virat Kohli will likely be rested
Virat Kohli is expected to be given a much-needed vacation and may be rested for the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, which begins on February 24. The former Indian captain has been on the road since the second Test against New Zealand, missing only one match.
While several of the veteran players have missed a few games owing to various reasons, Kohli has not had the opportunity to relax. According to Cricbuzz, he might be granted a sabbatical for three T20Is. The right-handed batsman is now in Kolkata, where the Men in Blue are hosting the West Indies, captained by Kieron Pollard, in three Twenty20 Internationals.
Following the WI series, the Indian team will travel to Lucknow for the first game of the SL series. Dharamsala will host the following two games.
According to the source, Kohli may be able to play his 100th Test match in Bengaluru if he is rested for the first Test match, which would be contested from March 4 to 8. Last year, Kohli was rested for the first Test of the New Zealand series.
The selection committee, led by Chetan Sharma, is expected to declare the T20I and Test teams in the coming days. During the team announcement, the selectors will also name the new Test captain.
According to Cricbuzz, Ravindra Jadeja will make his return to the national team during the series. Due to an injury, the first-choice all-rounder missed the second Test against New Zealand as well as the whole South Africa trip. He is said to have arrived in Lucknow and would be in charge of the series’ events.
With his return, one of Axar Patel or Washington Sundar might be cut from the T20I team. Both all-rounders were included to the T20I team for the WI series but were forced to withdraw owing to injury.
