Matuidi:
Matuidi had competed for France at the under-19 and under-21 levels as a young international. Under the leadership of new manager Laurent Blanc, Matuidi received his first call-up to the senior squad in August 2010. In a UEFA Euro 2012 qualifying match against Bosnia and Herzegovina in September 2010, he made his debut for his country.
Matuidi had a long playing career in Europe and beyond, appearing for 699 clubs and winning 75 caps for his country. Throughout his career, the Frenchman, a versatile midfielder, alternated between more defensive and offensive roles. He was also employed as a wide midfielder for the French national team.
Retirement:
The 35-year-old Matuidi made his final of 84 games for Les Bleus three years ago and won the World Cup in 2018.
The midfielder was a fierce ball-winner with outstanding endurance, good passing ability, and a keen eye for goal when he pressed forward. With Juventus in Italy and Paris Saint-Germain in France, he won three league championships in a row.
Matuidi wrote on Twitter,
“Football, I loved you so much. Football, you gave me so much, but the time has come to say stop,” “I’ve achieved my dreams as a child, as a man. It’s with a lump in my throat that I’m turning the page now.”
Thereby confirming his retirement from the game.
