FC Bengaluru United continue on their winning ways
Defending champions FC Bengaluru United kept up their undefeated run in the ongoing BDFA Super Division Championship as they beat Kodagu FC 3-0. The two-time BDFA champions started strongly and kept up the pressure throughout to record a strong win. The goalscorers for FCBU were Irfan Yarwad (4), Jairo Rodrigues (37) and Shajan Franklin (50).
FCBU began the match in attacking style and were rewarded within minutes. A long searching ball from Praful Kumar landed neatly at Irfan Yarwad’s feet; the tall forward expertly dribbled past two Kodagu defenders to calmly slot the ball in the bottom corner of the goal to get his team up 1-0 in the fourth minute.
FCBU continued in the attacking vein; soon after a strong counterattack saw Selwyn Miranda play in a long ball from the wing to Irfan who tried to flick it into the goal, only to be denied by the Kodagu FC defence. As the first half progressed, both teams seemed to drop their intensity – but soon enough FCBU were back on track through none other than Jairo Rodrigues. A corner from Manoj was headed in beautifully by the burly Brazilian to get FCBU up 2-0 in the 37th minute. Towards the end of the first half, Kodagu FC had their first real chance on goal, only for FCBU keeper and captain Srijith R to safely clear the ball.
FC Bengaluru United began the second half strongly, putting pressure on the Kodagu FC defence in a bid to increase their goal tally. Soon enough, they were rewarded – a throw-in from Ashok Singh in the 50th minute to Manvir Singh was powered in via a low shot to Shajan Franklin, who neatly slotted in the goal to push FCBU up 3-0. FCBU kept up the pressure, creating chances, but were unable to convert any of them – something they will look to address in the coming games – as they ended the match 3-0 winners.
