Kamada’s Late Heroics Earn Japan Dramatic Draw Against Netherlands

Mumbai, June 15: Japan struck late to secure a thrilling 2-2 draw against the Netherlands in an entertaining FIFA World Cup 2026 encounter. In a match filled with momentum shifts and moments of attacking brilliance, the Dutch twice took the lead before Japan’s resilience earned them a deserved share of the points. After a goalless first half, the Netherlands broke the deadlock in the 51st minute through captain Virgil van Dijk. The defender rose highest for a header from a well-delivered cross by Ryan Gravenberch, giving the Dutch the advantage.

Japan responded almost immediately. Just six minutes later, Keito Nakamura produced a spectacular long-range strike that flew past the goalkeeper, bringing the Samurai Blue level and injecting fresh energy into the contest. The Netherlands regained control in the 64th minute when Crysencio Summerville showcased his individual quality, cutting inside before curling a superb finesse finish into the net to restore his side’s lead.

With time running out, Japan continued to push forward in search of an equaliser and were rewarded in the 89th minute. Koki Ogawa headed the ball which was deflected off Daichi Kamada before it went into the net, sparking celebrations among the Japanese players and supporters. The result capped a captivating second half in which both teams displayed attacking intent and character. While the Netherlands will be disappointed to have surrendered the lead twice, Japan’s persistence ensured they left with a valuable point in what promises to be a fiercely competitive Group F campaign.
