Faf Du Plessis Has Been Named Captain Of RCB
For the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, Faf du Plessis has been named the new captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore team. At the RCB Unbox event in Bengaluru, Faf du Plessis was announced as Kohli’s successor.
Faf du Plessis will lead RCB into a new era, succeeding Virat Kohli, who has led the team for over a decade. Kohli announced his resignation at the end of the IPL 2021 season, citing a desire to take a break from his duties. At the IPL mega auction in 2022, Royal Challengers Bangalore acquired the former South Africa batter for Rs 7 crore.
As the last team to announce its captain ahead of the upcoming 10-team IPL 2022, RCB have not won the title since IPL’s inception. After Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble, Kevin Pietersen, Shane Watson, Virat Kohli, and Daniel Vettori, Du Plessis will be the RCB’s seventh captain.
The former CSK player has scored 2935 runs in 100 IPL matches, making him one of the most consistent players in the competition so far. While CSK won the IPL 2021 campaign with 633 runs from 16 matches, South Africa’s star was in excellent form for CSK.
