Premier League football club Everton FC have decided to cut ties with all of its Russian sponsorship partners amidst the Russian attacks on Ukraine at the moment. They have cut ties with companies like USM, Megafone, and Yota.
USM, a Russian company is currently owned by the oligarch Alisher Usmanov who is a Russian metals tycoon and former Arsenal co-owner is among the oligarchs sanctioned by the EU and is also said to be on a list of people due to face sanctions by the US Treasury.
The other two sponsors – Megafon, which is the second-largest mobile phone operator and the third-largest telecom operator in Russia, and smartphone manufacturer Yota have also been removed from the list of the Merseyside club in support of the protests against the horrific treatment by the Russian government towards Ukraine.
The club have also released a statement regarding their decision which said “Everyone at Everton remains shocked and saddened by the appalling events unfolding in Ukraine,”
