ENGvNZ: Daryl Mitchell scored a century on the second day of this test
ENGvNZ::The second match of the 3-Test series is being played between England and New Zealand at Trentbridge. New Zealand batsman Daryl Mitchell scored a century on the second day of this test. He completed his century by hitting a four off England fast bowler Matthew Potts.
This is Mitchell’s second consecutive century. Earlier, this Kiwi batsman had scored 108 runs in the second innings of Lord’s Test. However, he could not avoid New Zealand’s defeat.
This is the overall third century of Mitchell’s Test career. Earlier, he has also scored a century against Pakistan. Mitchell returned unbeaten on 81 on the first day of the Trentbridge Test. There has been a partnership of more than 200 runs between him and Tom Blundell for the fifth wicket. Blundell also scored a half-century on the first day.
Mitchell has become the third Kiwi batsman to score centuries in two consecutive innings in England. Before him, Bevan Congdon scored 176 and 175 runs in two consecutive innings against England in 1973. Vic Pollard also did this feat in the same year. He had scored 108 consecutive and 102 not out and now Daryl Mitchell has included his name in this list by scoring centuries in Lord’s and Trentbridge Tests.
Mitchell made his Test debut against England in 2019 itself. He found a place in the team as a replacement for Colin de Grandhomme and made full use of this opportunity by scoring a half-century in his first Test innings.
