Dinesh Karthik found guilty of breaching IPL code of conduct

Dinesh Karthik faces sanctions after breaching code of conduct

Royal Challengers Bangalore wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik was found guilty in the IPL eliminator match against Lucknow Super Giants of breaching the IPL code of conduct.

“Dinesh Karthik from Royal Challengers Bangalore has been reprimanded for breaching the TATA Indian Premier League’s (IPL) Code of Conduct during his team’s Eliminator match against Lucknow Super Giants on May 25th at Eden Gardens, Kolkata,” IPL said in an official statement on Friday.

“Mr. Karthik admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.3 of the IPL Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” the statement further added.

The exact reason was not mentioned behind the breach. It was mainly assumed due to the right-hander’s reaction to failing to hit an Avesh Khan delivery in the last over of the 1st innings.

Dinesh Karthik’s knock in that innings was an important one as he and Rajat Patidar put up a match-winning partnership at the end of 1st innings. Karthik remained not out on 37 off 23 balls. It was a 92-run partnership that fired RCB to 207/4.

RCB will now face Rajasthan Royals in the qualifier 2. RR lost their first match in the playoffs, i.e., the Qualifier 1. But, since they finished in the 2nd spot in the IPL table, they got a second chance by playing the qualifier 2. The winner of this match will face Gujarat Titans in the Final of IPL 2022, on Sunday.
