Dembele’s Contract Extension Talks With Barcelona Collapse
The meeting with the player’s representative has not gone as the club expected and, for now, there is no agreement Ousmane Dembele could be set to leave Barcelona this summer after contract extension talks with the club collapsed as confirmed by Gerard Romero.
Negotiations did not go as the Blaugrana expected and Dembele’s contract requests were not met. The sides remain a long way apart in their wage proposals. According to the reports from Spain Dembele and his agents asked for a €40 Million Gross salary per season and €20 Million in renewal bonus. This number was rejected by Joan Laporta and co.
However, Xavi and Co. remain hopeful that a deal can be salvaged despite the dire circumstances. The President and the manager have praised Dembele immensely, pushing him to sign a renewal.
Dembele has played no more than five games this season but has managed to register two assists. His performance against Sevilla showed a lot of what he is capable of as a player and helped Barca secure a draw. The player has been linked with several clubs of which English clubs Newcastle United and Manchester United are at the forefront. He’ll be free to negotiate with any club starting from January 1st and could leave as a free agent in June.
