Cricket Australia Extends Head Coach Andrew McDonald’s Contract Through 2027
Sydney, October 30, 2024 – Cricket Australia (CA) has extended the contract of Andrew McDonald as head coach of the Australian men’s cricket team through 2027. McDonald, who took on the role in 2022, has since led Australia to high-profile victories, including the ICC World Test Championship, the 2023 ODI World Cup, and a successful Ashes campaign in England.
Under McDonald’s leadership, Australia has become the world’s top-ranked Test team and holds the No. 2 position in both ODI and T20 cricket. His extended tenure will see him leading the team through a series of major events: the 2025 Champions Trophy, the 2026 T20 World Cup, the 2027 ODI World Cup, and the next World Test Championship cycle.
Reflecting on his role, McDonald praised the unity and dedication within the team. “I am fortunate to have an exceptional group of leaders, players, and coaches who are fully invested in our collective success,” he said.
Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley expressed confidence in McDonald’s leadership, calling him “an outstanding men’s head coach who, alongside delivering exceptional results, has cultivated a positive environment for the team to excel.”
With McDonald’s strategic guidance, Australia faces an action-packed period, including an unprecedented 13-month Test cricket run in 2026-27, featuring away series against India and England, as well as the 150th-anniversary Test at Melbourne Cricket Ground.
