Cheteshwar Pujara joins Sussex Cricket Club
Cheteshwar Pujara of India was signed as an overseas hitter for Sussex Cricket’s County Championship and Royal London One-Day Cup competitions on Thursday. As a result of increased international obligations and an announcement that he and his fiancée are expecting their first child, Pujara will replace Australia batter Travis Head. It is an honour and a pleasure for me to join the renowned Sussex County Cricket Club for the 2022 season.
As a member of the Sussex family and part of its long cricketing tradition, I am excited to join the team. Pujara said in an official statement: “I’ve enjoyed playing county cricket in the UK over the years, and hope to contribute to the club’s success.”
Sussex Cricket noted in its announcement that they are thrilled to welcome such a well-experienced international batsman to the squad. They are looking forward to his contributions both with the bat and by helping our young top-order batters to grow in first-class cricket.
“We’re sad Travis won’t be able to join us, but we wish him the best with his international responsibilities and congratulate him and his partner Jessica on their news,” the statement continued.
Pujara will arrive in time for the first match of the season and remain until the RL50 competition concludes.
