Chess Olympiad Torch Relay: PM Narendra Modi plays Chess with Koneru Humpy
Chess Olympiad Torch Relay : Sunday (June 19) was a great day for Indian chess players. On this day the torch relay of Chess Olympiad was launched from India itself. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the torch relay from Indira Gandhi International Stadium in New Delhi.
On this occasion, colorful programs were organized at Indira Gandhi International Stadium. Meanwhile, the torch relay of the Chess Olympiad was launched. During this, Sports Minister Anurag Thakur was also present here.
During the colorful program, dance and folk dance were also performed on the chess box. During this the stage was decorated brilliantly like a chess box.
The tricolor was also seen waving during the dance and the artists also wore tricolor clothes . Prime Minister Narendra Modi also played chess with Koneru Humpy, gold medalist of Chess Olympiad 2020 here and started the event.
Modi also handed over this torch relay to five-time world champion Viswanathan Anand . After starting from Delhi, this torch will pass through 75 different cities of the country. Finally on July 27, it will reach Mahabalipuram. After which the Chess Olympiad will start from July 28. The Chess Olympiad will run till August 10, 2022.
Till now this used to happen only in the Olympic Games, but this time the International Chess Body has implemented it in Chess Olympiad as well. In this event, ” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that this is the first time that India is hosting this event . We are proud that this game is leaving its mark in the whole world. Today chess has again returned to its birthplace. PM Modi said that India used to play it in the form of Chaturanga centuries ago.”
