Chelsea FC troubles continue as club credit cards get suspended by Barclays
Due to the recent financial and other sanctions being put on Chelsea FC owner Roman Abramovich by the UK government, Chelsea FC’s club credit cards have also been suspended until further notice by Barclays. Russian owner Abramovich had been banned from entering the United Kingdom as he is believed to have close connections to the Russian president Vladimir Putin.
The current invasion attempts from Russia into their neighbouring country Ukraine has been seen as a shocking and bad move from the country due to which many countries have imposed various sanctions on Russia as well.
The sanctions imposed on Chelsea FC as well would’ve eventually meant that all their sporting activities had to be stopped at this very moment. However, the UK government have given Chelsea Football Club a special clearance to finish their season normally with the current ticket holders allowed to attend games at the Stamford Bridge.
With that being said, Chelsea FC still can’t offer any new contracts to players and their staff and are not allowed to sell any new tickets to supporters for the future matches. The sale of the club will end all of the problems for now.
The UK government also wants Chelsea FC to be sold as soon as possible as long as the Russian owner Abramovich is not having any benefit from it. The Raine Group, which is the investment bank responsible for handling the sale have almost 10 buyers for the club and will try to make it happen as soon as possible.
