Cameron Green Set for Surgery, To Miss Crucial India Test Series
Australia faces a significant setback ahead of their highly anticipated Test series against India, as star all-rounder Cameron Green will be out for up to six months due to back surgery. Green sustained the injury during Australia’s recent white-ball tour of the UK, and scans revealed a stress fracture. Cricket Australia stated that a unique defect near the fracture area contributed to the injury. To prevent future issues, Green will undergo surgery.
This injury rules Green out of the crucial five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, impacting Australia’s defense of their ICC World Test Championship title. Green is also unlikely to recover for Australia’s Test tour of Sri Lanka and the ICC Champions Trophy scheduled for early next year.
Green’s absence could force veteran Steve Smith, who was set to bat at No.4, back into his preferred position lower in the order. Australia now faces the challenge of finding a new bowling option and an opening partner for Usman Khawaja. Selection chair George Bailey confirmed that Smith, who had opened previously, will not continue in that role during the series against India, leaving a gap at the top of the order.
