With the race to the World Test Championship (WTC) final intensifying, the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) is set to be a decisive battle. Locked at 1-1 after three matches, India and Australia are under immense pressure to secure a win and bolster their chances of reaching the WTC final.
The previous Test in Brisbane ended in a dramatic draw, with rain washing out nearly two sessions on the final day. Australia, in a commanding position, was denied a crucial victory that could have virtually eliminated India from the WTC race while strengthening their own position.
Both teams have reshuffled their squads ahead of the high-stakes clash. Australia will be without pace bowler Josh Hazlewood, who sustained an injury. Scott Boland has been named as his replacement, while 19-year-old debutant Sam Konstas will step in for Nathan McSweeny, who has been dropped.
For India, veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin shocked fans by announcing his retirement after the Gabba Test and returning home. In his absence, uncapped spinner Tanush Kotian has been included in the squad and is likely to play a crucial role in the bowling attack.
Fans can breathe a sigh of relief as the weather forecast for Melbourne predicts minimal disruptions. According to Accuweather, there is almost no chance of rain on the first two days, with cloudy skies expected. Day 3 might see a brief evening shower, with a 24% chance of rainfall. However, the final two days are forecasted to be mostly sunny, ensuring uninterrupted play.
The fourth Test at the iconic MCG promises high-octane action, with the fate of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and the WTC final qualification on the line. With both teams making crucial adjustments to their squads and the weather favoring a full five-day contest, cricket fans worldwide eagerly await what could be an unforgettable match.
