Birmingham is the beginning, ICC’s goal is to make it to the Olympics

Women cricketers will get a chance to play in a multi-sports event for the first time. When cricket returns to the Commonwealth Games after 24 years, the sport will try to grab people’s attention at the global level as well. The Commonwealth comprises of the top cricket-playing nations and the sport will return to the Birmingham Games. Cricket was included in Kuala Lumpur only once in 1998 in the Commonwealth Games so far.

Then the male cricketers took part in these games. The International Cricket Council (ICC), which is engaged in the exercise of including cricket in the 2028 Olympics, will be hopeful that women’s cricket will get good success in Birmingham, which will strengthen its claim to include the sport in the Los Angeles Olympics.

The number of people of Indian and Pakistani origin in Birmingham is quite high and in such a situation, a large number of spectators are likely to be present in the match between these two countries on July 31. Birmingham Games Chief Executive Officer Ian Reid said, “The match between India and Pakistan will be the highlight of the Commonwealth Games.” England and Australia may not be in a group, but the spectators will be hopeful that the two teams will face each other in the knockout stage. Tickets for the semi-finals and finals have already been sold out.

Cricketers, who are usually confined to their hotel rooms during bilateral matches, will also get a chance to meet players from other sports during the Commonwealth Games. Although the cricketers will not have to stay in the Games Village with other international players, they will remain a part of the opening ceremony. They will also get a chance to watch the game of their choice.

The 8 teams are divided into 2 groups of 4-4 teams. Group A includes India, Pakistan, Australia and Barbados while Group B includes England, New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka. This competition will also give all the teams a chance to assess their position before next year’s T20 World Cup. In T20 and ODI cricket, the current world champions Australia are strong contenders for the title. England are just a little behind their arch – rivals .Teams like India, New Zealand and South Africa have made good progress in recent years.
