India’s Semi-Final Hopes Revived After Australia’s Win Over New Zealand
Before the Australia series, Kusal Mendis tested positive for Covid-19.
Sri Lanka will play a 5 match T20 series in Australia from 11th February 2022. The T20 series will be played across three venues – Sydney Cricket ground (SCG), Manuka Oval, and the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
On Tuesday, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced that experienced batsman Kusal Mendis had tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of the T20I series against Australia.
During the team’s tour of England in July, Mendis was suspended for breaching the team’s anti-coronavirus protocols during the bio-bubble.
“During a regular Rapid Antigen Test (RAT), Mendis was discovered to be positive,” the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) board stated in a statement.
“Mendis has been in seclusion since Monday and is presently through Covid-19 procedures.”
On February 3, Sri Lanka’s national squad departed for Australia. The T20I series between Sri Lanka and Australia kicks off at the SCG on February 11.
Following their white-ball tour of Australia, the Sri Lankan team will go to India for a two-match Test and three-match T20 series, which will begin on February 25.
Before the team’s departure, uncapped bowler Nuwan Thushara, who was part of the 20-member Sri Lanka squad to tour Australia, tested positive for the virus.
The team’s trainer, Dilshan Fonseka, has also tested positive for the virus.
According to the SLC, both will return to the squad on February 10, once they have finished their quarantine period.
