Australia end day 2 in a strong position

Day 2 of the first test match between Australia and Sri Lanka came to an early end due to bad light. Australia ended the day 101 runs ahead.

The scorecard at the end of Day 2 read: Australia – 313/8 after 68 overs, with a 101 run lead over the host team.

After bowling Sri Lanka out for 212, Australia cruised to 98/3 at the end of day 1.

The Aussies came out firing after a delayed start to play due to rain.

But, Australia lost Travis Head early, after his leading edge was gleefully gobbled up by Dhanajaya de Silva.

Usman Khawaja on the other hand, completed a well made half century.

He went on to score 71(130), before he was out caught off the bowling of Jeffrey Vandersay.

Alex Carey and Cameron Green took the attack to the Sri Lankan bowlers. Carey scored a quick fire 45, before his lofted miskew was accrobatically caught by Dinesh Chandimal.

Cameron Green tried to take the charge over and managed to score 77 before being trapped in front of the wicket by Ramesh Mendis.

With his 50, Cameron Green became the second youngest player to score a half century for Australia in Sri Lanka.

Mitchell Starc’s stay at the crease was short lived as he was out c&b by Jeffrey Vandersay.

Both Lyon and Pat Cummins came out and hit some big blows to take Australia’s lead past 100, before play was stopped.

End of Day 2, Australia would be pleased by their outing thus far but, job’s not over. They need to score quickly, before trying to bowl out Sri Lanka in the 2nd innings.
