Ashwin reflects on Pakistan’s Leadership Crisis and Instability

Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin recently expressed concerns about the ongoing leadership crisis and poor performance in Pakistan cricket. Following Pakistan’s early exit from the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup, captain Babar Azam stepped down, sparking a series of captaincy changes. Shaheen Afridi briefly took over as T20I captain before Babar was reinstated, only for him to resign again.

In a viral video on social media, Ashwin compared Pakistan’s leadership situation to a game of “musical chairs.” He stressed that the frequent captaincy changes are damaging the team’s morale and affecting their ability to play as a cohesive unit.

Ashwin said, “I genuinely feel sorry for the current state of Pakistan cricket. Despite having talented players, the team’s instability forces them to focus more on individual performance rather than team success.” He added, “Players will feel so unstable in the dressing room that they’ll prioritize themselves over the team.”

Ashwin also pointed out Pakistan’s poor Test cricket record, highlighting that the team has failed to win a home Test match for nearly three years. “After the 2023 World Cup, Babar resigned. Then Afridi was made captain, but Babar returned for limited overs, and Shan Masood took over as Test captain. The situation now is that Pakistan hasn’t won a home Test match in over three years.”

Ashwin’s comments reflect the growing concern among cricket experts about Pakistan’s leadership turmoil and how it impacts their international performance.
