Argentina wins the Finalissima, defeats Italy by 3 goals

Argentina defeated Italy in a grand fashion, Messi being the Man of the Match

The Euro 2021 champions Italy and Copa America champions Argentina clashed against each other in the first-ever Finalissima. The match was a thriller as Argentina eased their way past the Italians to name a second trophy in a span of 2 years.

The Albiceleste scored three important goals through Angel di Maria, Lautaro Martinez, and Paulo Dybala. The first goal was exceptionally created by Lionel Messi. He made a solo run inside the box, taking on Giovanni Di Lorenzo. He then glided a low cross towards Martinez and he finished it off brilliantly in the 28th minute.

The second goal came in the first-half stoppage time, where Martinez created one for Angel di Maria, who chipped it to beat Donnaruma. Argentina by the 1st half was clearly dominating the game.

Italy in the second half did fight back but could provide a goal. In the 46th minute of the second half, Georgio Chiellini was substituted for Bellotti. This was Chiellini’s 117th International appearance. This was his final appearance too, with the Italy colors. This match might not have been the best match he played, but he did have an excellent career.

In the stoppage time in the second half, Messi again assisted, this time to Paulo Dybala, and wrapped up the match, winning it by 3-0.

This loss for Italy sums up the year they had, as they didn’t qualify for the 2022 World Cup as they got a scare against North Macedonia, in the knockout playoffs. Now, they lost the Final against Argentina too.

Argentina set a new record of 32 unbeaten games. Winning the Copa America a year ago and winning this trophy now, sets a good vibe in the team, for the upcoming 2022 Qatar World Cup. Argentina surely will be one of the favourites in the tournament.
