5 Batsman To Watch Out IND/SA
India will face South Africa at the SuperSport Park, Centurion for the first test of the Freedom Trophy on Boxing day. The sides meet in South Africa amid the new COVID-19 strain crisis. The Soth African Cricket Board had to cancel a lot of domestic cricket fixtures in order to facilitate the series against India. With the excitement building up for the cricketing action in this festive season we are going to take a look at 5 batsmen to watch out for in the upcoming series.
1) VIRAT KOHLI
In every match, series he plays, Kohli is always one of the players to watch out for. However, more eyes will be on the 33-year-old following the white-ball captaincy drama. Rohit Sharma was named the captain of the ODI squad. Additionally, he has not scored a century in international cricket for more than two years. In SA, he’s played 10 Tests in the past, scoring 558 runs at an average of 55.80 which includes two centuries and fifties each.
2) KL RAHUL
KL Rahul is definitely one player you need to keep an eye the kind of year he is having with the bat, could be the best of his career. He scored 315 runs in 4 Tests against England and become India’s second-highest run-getter in the series, Rahul smashed 626 runs in IPL 2021 and also finished as the highest run-scorer for India in the T20 World Cup at 194. He missed the New Zealand Test series due to a niggle but is back with the team now. He could open for India alongside Mayank Agarwal as both Gill and Rohit are missing. The true nature of the pitches will also suit his games as the Karnataka batter is at his best when the ball comes onto the bat. He would look to improve his record in South Africa, which currently reads 30 runs in 2 matches.
3) Sarel Erwee
An opening batter with a lot of domestic experience, Erwee hasn’t quite been able to break into the South African team given the amount of competition for the top-order slots, with Test skipper Elgar and Aiden Markram having cemented their place as the Test openers. Erwee had quite the run in the recent South Africa A-India A unofficial Test series, in which he finished as the top run-scorer with 251 runs (average: 50.20; two 50s). That, along with an impressive run in the domestic First-Class tournament, in which he has two centuries in three matches.
4)Rassie van der Dussen
One of the more versatile batsmen in the current era, van der Dussen has drawn comparison with the likes of India’s Cheteshwar Pujara and Rahul Dravid when it gets into the stonewalling mode. Dussen can also shift gears quickly if he’s in the mood to smash bowlers all over the park. He’s also proved handy as someone who can float around the batting order depending on the team’s needs, which, along with his temperament, has made him an asset for the Proteas.
5) Shreyas Iyer
A century on debut and half-century in the same test match. Shreyas Iyer has become the first cricketer Indian cricketer to achive this feat. A complete middle-order batsman with a great sense of technique and understanding, Iyer has already been termed as the future of the Indian cricket team. He has been left out of the team for quiet a while but when given opportunity against New Zealand in the recent series he scored 202 runs in just 2 tests. This will be his first overseas tour, the batsman will look to stamp his authority and cement his position in the team.
