U-19 WC 2022: India beat Bangladesh to set up semi-final clash with Australia

The under-19 Indian cricket team have got themselves a semi-final berth in the ICC U-19 World Cup 2022 after they beat the defending champions Bangladesh in their quarter-final tie by five wickets in what was an easy win for the men in blue. The Indian bowlers worked their magic in the quarter-final tie in the first innings after India won the toss and chose to bowl first. They dismissed the Bangladesh batting attack at a total of 111 which is not a good total for a 50 over the game.

The Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua witnessed a repeat of the 2020 final but the intensity of both sides was totally different compared to the last time met each other. This is the first time the Indian team got to bowl first in this tournament as in all the other cases, they batted first. 18-year-old Ravi Kumar grabbed this stage with both hands and dominated the Bangladesh starting order as he was able to take three wickets and gave away just 14 runs. Bangladesh were 14 for three after his spell of seven overs.

Mehrob Hasan tried to give some support with his important 30 to help the team get to a respectable total but eventually got out and the team was bowled out for 111. The Indians also didn’t get off to a very good start as opener Harnoor Singh was taken out of the game with a duck. However, Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Shaik Rasheed put on a good 70 which calmed things for the chasing team. From then on it was a comfortable win for the Indians as they chased the target with 115 balls left to play.

The Indian team will now take on Australia in the semi-finals and will be looking forward to booking their place into their 2nd consecutive final of the ICC U-19 World Cup.
