Women's IPL
The women’s Indian Premier League will be launched in a one-month window in March 2023 and is likely to feature five teams, a senior BCCI official confirmed on Friday. The issue was discussed by the top BCCI officials and the March window for the tournament, which follows the Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa, was deemed appropriate.
A senior BCCI official said on condition of anonymity, “Yes, WIPL will start in the first week of March and we have fixed a window of four weeks for the first year. The T20 World Cup will be held in South Africa from February 9-20 and we plan to have the WIPL soon thereafter.
Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings all showed interest in buying women’s teams. Even UTV CEO Ronnie Screwvala tweeted that he is interested in buying the WIPL franchise. There has been a demand to start the women’s IPL for a long time. Many foreign cricketers have raised their voice about this.
