Indian star shuttler Kidambi Srikanth defeated Pablo Abian of Spain to start his BWF World Championships drive on a victorious position on Sunday.
The Indian badminton ace smashed the local opponent 21-12 21-16 in a game of 36 minutes in the opening set of the men’s singles match. After former world number one Kidambi Srikanth got his drive off to burning dawn on Day 1, the priority is now on India’s experienced campaigner HS Prannoy and 21-year-old young talent Dhruv Kapila to bring forward the nation’s lead on Day 2 of the BWF World Championships 2021 in Huelva, Spain.
On the other hand The Indian men’s duo of Manu Attri and B Sumeeth Reddy, however, lost in linear rounds against Joel Elpe and Rasmus Kjaer of Denmark in the beginning round.
Attri and Sumeeth yielded 16-21 15-21 in 32 minutes to make a departure from the BWF World Championships. On court 2, the Indian women’s duo of Sanjana Santosh and Pooja Dandu also met an earlier leave after having to withdraw mid-way between the match. The Dutch duo of Alyssa Tirtosentono and Imke Van Der Aar had succeeded at their first game 21-12 and before any slack as possible in the next round, the Indian pair departed.
Reigning winner PV Sindhu, who called a bye in the first match, will unlock her drive against Martina Repiska of Slovakia.
