Sports Trumpet Exclusive: Dr Sanjay Kapoor and Mr Bharat Chauhan

Sports Trumpet had an exclusive interviw with AICF President Dr Sanjay Kapoor and AICF secretary Mr Bharat Chauhan .

FIDE has confirmed that India is going to host the 44th World Chess Olympiad, in Tamil Nadu. Dr Sanjay Kapoor and Mr Bharat Chauhan share their thoughts.

Where will the tournament be held?

In the interview, Dr Sanjay Kapoor said that the the signing of legal documents regarding the hosting of the tournament was done.

The tournament will be held in Mahabalipuram in Tamil Nadu.

Where can you watch the tournament?

As of now, AICF has not finalised who will get the broadcasting rights.

However, AICF do have a contract with Doordarshan. As a result, preference has been given to them.

They are awaiting a response from Doordarshan. If Doordarshan do not want to broadcast the tournament, they will find another channel.

The games can be watched online through various websites.

With Covid 19 danger still looming, will there be a bio-bubble for the players?

Dr Sanjay Kapoor said that no, a bio-bubble will not be there. Even during the national championship, the bio-bubble wasn’t there.

Still, it will be mandatory for the players to have regular tests done. Mr Bharat Chauhan also said that there will be a test every 3 days, there will be a testing centre in every hotel.

Mr Bharat also assured that every protocol required for prevention of Covid 19 will be conducted.

What is the message for the supporters?

Dr Sanjay Kapoor has requested the fans to unite and come to support the team.

Mr Bharat Chauhan is pretty excited regarding the hosting of the event. It is the biggest chess event being conducted here as more than 200 countries will be participating.

He also hopes that this Chess Olympiad would be the best one ever held.

When will the tournament be held?

The specific dates will be announced within a few days, but the Olympiad will take place in July and August, “not very far off from the dates originally planned,” according to FIDE.

AICF will want to make the most of the opportunity after receiving the hosting rights.
