Former all-rounder Shane Watson says he is “very enthusiastic” for the Australian squad now led by Pat Cummins after Tim Paine’s departure. Cummins was chosen Australian men’s Test cricket team captain in November last year, following the revelation that Paine would take an indefinite hiatus from all crickets. “He is, in my opinion, the pinnacle. He was in a no-win scenario coming up to Justin Langer’s departure because if he reacted in any direction, it would not look good “Watson stated this on ‘The ICC Review.’
Justin Langer, whose four-year contract was set to expire in June 2021, resigned as Australia’s senior men’s team coach earlier this month.
“He has handled it all so well after things had calmed down and Justin Langer had stepped down because he is so personable, honest, and really engaging to the public and to his colleagues,” Watson said of Cummins.
Watson also stated that Australia have talent and that he is looking forward to watching Cummins lead the team ahead.
“I am genuinely excited about the Australian group, with Pat leading the charge, and the next phase of Australian cricket because they have the capability and leadership to carry it forward,” Watson said.
