Rafael Nadal defeats Medvedev to reach the ATP final in Acapulco.

Rafael Nadal reached the final of the Mexican Open in Acapulco on Sunday, extending his winning streak to 14 in 2022 after defeating Daniil Medvedev of Russia 6-3, 6-3 in the men’s singles semi-final. Nadal, who won the Australian Open last month in Melbourne, is in his third consecutive final.

In the first game, Nadal faced two breakpoints, but Medvedev held his serve, and it was only a matter of time before the Spaniard led 3-1 and 6-3 in the first set. Medvedev, on the other hand, rediscovered his stride and had 11 breakpoints in the match, but Nadal was unfazed and won the semi-final match, which lasted approximately 2 hours.

In the Australian Open final, Nadal came back from a two-set deficit to overcome Medvedev in a five-set marathon in Melbourne. On Sunday, Nadal, who has won Acapulco three times, observed, “Daniil medvedev was playing incredibly aggressively in the second set, with drop drops and wins.”

“It was a difficult set, and I consider myself fortunate to have won it, given his several opportunities.” It’s amazing to beat the best player in the world, and it’s even more amazing to be in the final.

Nadal will face Cameron Norrie of the United Kingdom in the final of the Mexican Open, where he will be pursuing his 91st tour-level championship.

This year, Norrie has gone a long way. You can’t anticipate an easy opponent because we’re in the final of the 500 events in Acapulco. It’ll be difficult, but I’m looking forward to the task.

Earlier on Friday, British sixth seed Norrie defeated world number four Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-4, 6-4 in one hour and 18 minutes in Acapulco, preventing him from reaching a second consecutive final.

At the start of the game, I wasn’t feeling good. “I was nervous at first, but my serve kept me in there,” Norrie remarked. “I was able to influence the play and move inside his backhand while guarding my forehand.”
