Patna Pirates ensure top-two finish on the table after registering sixth consecutive win

A Super 10 from Sachin and a High 5 from Mohammadreza Chiyaneh guided Patna Pirates to a 38-30 win over the Telugu Titans. This was the Pirates’ sixth-straight win that guarantees them a top-two finish in the standings.

The Pirates got off to a strong start and built a three-point lead early in the game, courtesy of two raid points from Sachin and a point each from Guman Singh and the defence. The Titans managed to cut the deficit to one with a 2-0 run, but Patna responded with three unanswered points of their own to reduce Telugu to a solitary man on the mat. The Pirates defence pinned down Muhammed Shihas to inflict the game’s first All Out and take a 10-3 lead.

The teams split the next eight points evenly as the Patna maintained their seven-point lead. A 5-2 run from the Titans saw them peg the Pirates on the backfoot. Rajnish then delivered a Super Raid that cut the deficit to two and left Patna with two men on the mat. Adarsh managed to tag both Pirates’ players in the same raid before sprinting past the midline to help the Titans inflict an All Out and take a 20-19 lead.

But Patna finished the half on a 2-0 run to go into the break leading by a point.

The Pirates extended their lead to two early in the second half, before a 3-0 run from the Titans saw them reclaim the lead. A brilliant team tackle on Galla Raju, followed by a brilliantly executed pursuit from Shubham Shinde, saw the Pirates pull ahead on the scoreboard. Another tackle point from Patna’s defence left the Titans with just two men on the mat and Sachin took care of both in one raid to help the Pirates inflict an All Out and take a seven-point lead.

Mohammadreza’s brilliant Ankle Hold on Rajnish followed by his assured assist against Ankit Beniwal saw the Pirates extend their lead to eight. Two unanswered points from the Titans got the deficit back to six, but the Iranian left corner added two more tackle points to his tally in the final minute of the game to complete his High 5 and assure the Titans left the game empty-handed.
