Novak Djokovic reaches semi finals after a stunning comeback

Jannik Sinner was 2 sets up in his quarter final match against World number 1 Novak Djokovic but, was unable to land the final blow.

Djokovic came back to take the 3rd set 6-3 before taking the 4th set 6-2, to take the match to the 5th and final set.

Djokovic won the 5th set, his 3rd in a row, to win the match and progress to his 11th Wimbledon semi-final. He won the set 6-2 to complete a comeback over the Italian Jannik Sinner. It was the seventh time in the Serb’s career that he had recovered from two sets to love at the Slams.

After his win, Djokovic had a few words of praise for his counterpart.

“Huge congrats to Jannik for a big fight, he’s so mature for his age, he has plenty of time ahead of him,” said Djokovic.

“The first two sets compared to the next three were like two different matches. He was the better player for those first two sets.

“But at the end of the second set I took a toilet break, gave myself a little pep talk, tried to gather my thoughts.

“I broke early in the third set. I saw a little bit of doubt start to come into his movement. I have many years’ experience of playing on these courts and coping with the pressure.”

Djokovic, a 20-time Grand Slam champion, will next face either unseeded David Goffin or ninth-seeded Cameron Norrie for a spot in Sunday’s final.

His arch rival and world number 2, Rafael Nadal, will play his quarter final tie tomorrow against USA’s Taylor Fritz.

If Djokovic goes on to win the Wimbledon this time around, he will take his Grand Slam tally up to 21, 1 behind Rafael Nadal and equal with Peter Sampras on 7 Wimbledon titles. He would then be 1 off the record winner Roger Federer.
