Nadal reached the Australia Open final

After beating Matteo Berrettini in the semi-final Nadal marches to the Final of Australia Open 2022.

Rafael Nadal is one win away from a men’s record 21st Grand Slam title after defeating Italian seventh seed Matteo Berrettini 6-3, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.

Nadal won the first two sets. During the third set, Berttini came alive and began forcing Nadal back with his forehands, causing a break of serve, forcing a fourth set.

After beating Gael Monfils in the quarter-final Matteo Berrettini is the first Italian man to be in the Australian Open semifinals.

Lifting the trophy in Melbourne would make Nadal the second man in the Open Era to have won all four Grand Slams twice (after Novak Djokovic).

“For me, it’s all about the Australian Open more than anything else, it’s an amazing event,” Nadal said.

Nadal is tied for the most Grand Slam titles with Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, and because the other two will not be playing in the Australian Open 2022, Nadal has the chance to become the first man to win 21 major titles.

Having already ruined Djokovic’s quest for a 21st Grand Slam by winning the US Open final, Medvedev could again stand in Nadal’s way – if he can defeat Tsitsipas.

Rafael Nadal was determined to treat the Sunday match like any other major final. Rafal Nadal will play his 6th Australian Open final on Sunday. He won the Australian Open was in 2009. He had some good chances in 2012 against Novak Djokovic and 2017 with Roger Federer but lost them. He never thought he would get a chance in 2022.

In his 20 Grand Slam semi-finals, Nadal had never lost after leading by two sets. He will face either Daniil Medvedev or Stefanos Tsitsipas in Sunday’s final.
