Mirabai Chanu will be representing the Indian team in the Commonwealth Games 2022 in the weightlifting category as the former Tokyo Olympic silver medallist has clinched the gold medal in the 55kg category at the Singapore Weightlifting International. The 27-year-old weightlifter participated in the 55kg category for the first time and managed to lift a total of 191 Kgs as well. She won the gold medal in an uncompetitive field but will be looking forward now to winning a medal in the upcoming Commonwealth games.
Mirabai Chanu was delighted with the qualification and expressed her opinion on it by saying “7 months of intense training and my never-ending love for the sport continues to pay off. I would like to extend my thanks to our Ministry of Youth and Affairs, Weightlifting Federation of India, SAI, IOS Sports, and all the other stakeholders who have helped me reach here. I am determined to work harder and do everything I can to grab the gold medal again for my country in the CWG.”
Chanu has been able to qualify in the 55kg category as she was in the top 8 players of her category after winning gold recently. The talented weightlifter has also qualified for the 49 Kg category because of her high Commonwealth rankings.
