The IPL Auction 2022 has gained a lot of interest, with a record number of players being sold for more than Rs 10 crore and a total of over Rs 600 crore being paid.
While many regional and international cricketers have welcomed the auction for the chances it provides, many have also hoped for a full-fledged season of the Women’s IPL. Though the Women’s IPL has been a recognised occurrence since 2018, it is currently contested with only three teams – considerably fewer than the number of teams in the Men’s IPL.
Kate Cross, an English cricketer, took to Twitter to express her desire for a Women’s IPL Auction. She stated, “I can’t wait till there’s a women’s version of this! #IPLAuction”
In response to her teammate’s post, Danielle Wyatt stated that she had heard that the auction and tournament may take place the following year.
Kate expressed her desire to play for the Chennai Super Kings in the Women’s IPL in a recent video chat with Indian bowler R Ashwin. Only time will tell when the auction will take place and who will be selected. However, it appears to be in the works.
According to BCCI secretary Jay Shah, a full-fledged Women’s IPL is in the works, and it would be run in the same tournament format as the Men’s IPL. Currently, the Big Bash League is the only women’s franchisee competition taking place throughout the world, but with the BCCI’s resources, the Women’s IPL might become a reality very soon.
