During Thursday’s ICC Women’s World Cup, India’s veteran bowler Jhulan Goswami set a record for most wickets. He matched Australia’s Lyn Fullston’s record of 39 wickets between 1982 and 1988.
During the Women’s Quadrangular Series against South Africa on May 9, a couple of years ago, Jhulan had become the top wicket-taker in women’s ODIs.
In women’s one-day internationals, Indian players presently hold most of the world records. Among women’s ODI players, Mithali Raj has scored the most runs and is ranked seventh.
Goswami was named Women’s Player of the Year in 2007. During a historic year, she averaged 12.40 in Tests and 21.80 in ODIs, while her economy rate of 2.10 in Tests and 3.17 in ODIs demonstrated her superb control and ability to contain.
Jhulan, who made her ODI debut in 2002, earned the Arjuna Award in 2010 and the prestigious Padma Shri two years later. Hoping that this feat by Jhulam will ignite India Cricket’s team quest to win women’s world cup.
