IOC’s 2023 session will be held in Mumbai

After winning the bid at the 139th IOC session, India will host the 2023 International Olympic Committee (IOC) session in Mumbai. The Indian committee representative, Nita Ambani, called it a “significant development” for India’s Olympic aspirations.

For the first time since 1983, India will host the session. The event will be held at the newly new Jio World Convention Centre, which is state-of-the-art. Mumbai won an unprecedented 99 percent of the votes cast in favor of its bid from the delegates involved in the process, with 75 members approving its candidacy during the session held in Beijing.

The International Olympic Committee Session is coming to India in 2023, which will be a historic time! In recent years, Indian sports have achieved enormous progress. I’m thrilled and honored to have been a member of the Indian delegation for this historic event. #IOCSession2023, #StrongerTogether “Anurag Thakur sent a tweet.

An IOC session is the yearly assembly of the IOC’s members, who are divided into 101 voting members and 45 honorary members. The IOC discusses and decides on the key activities of the global Olympic movement, such as adopting or amending the Olympic Charter, electing IOC members and office bearers, and choosing the host city.

After a 40-year gap, the Olympic Movement has returned to India. “I am very thankful to the International Olympic Committee for entrusting India with the honor of hosting the IOC Session in Mumbai in 2023,” said Ambani, India’s first female IOC member.

It will be a major step for India’s Olympic hopes, heralding a new era for Indian sport.”

Among the Indian delegation, along with Ambani, were Indian Olympic Association President Narinder Batra, Sports Minister Anurag Thakur, and the first individual gold medalist from India, Abhinav Bindra.
