The outbreak in the Indian team has come while they are practicing in Bengaluru, for the Commonwealth Games, commencing next month in Birmingham.
Hockey India released a statement on Thursday stating that the five returned positive for the RTPCR tests that were conducted on Wednesday morning.
To take precautions, those players who have shown mild symptoms have been isolated from the rest of the group.
The team arrived in Bengaluru after great performances in Europe against Belgium and Netherlands. They arrived in Bengaluru for final practice at the Sports Authority of India centre, before departing for the commonwealth games.
Unfortunately, the final preparations have been interrupted by the COVID-19 cases. Reportedly, 2 players and 3 staff members have contracted the virus.
The names though, are yet to be revealed by Hockey India.
Crucial days ahead for the Indian Hockey team, as all hope for a quick recovery of the players and staff members.
