Indian Football: Indian football team’s assistant coach has been dismissed, alleged sexual harassment

Indian Football : Alex Ambrose, assistant head coach of the U-17 women’s team, has been sacked following allegations of sexual harassment. A member of the COA has confirmed this.

Alex Ambrose, the assistant coach of the Indian football women’s U-17 team, has been removed from his post on charges of sexual harassment.

Dr. SY Qureshi, a member of the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (COA), has confirmed. Qureshi tweeted,

“Alex Ambrose, assistant head coach of the U-17 women’s team, has been sacked for sexual harassment. Further action under process.”

The CoA had indicated the removal of Alex Ambrose on June 30, but the name was not disclosed then. The CoA had said in the statement, ‘A case of misbehavior has come to the fore in the Under-17 women’s team, the team is currently on an experience tour of Europe.

AIFF maintains a zero tolerance policy in the matter of indiscipline. As a preliminary action, the federation has temporarily suspended the person concerned pending further investigation.

Such cases had come before

In the recent past, there have been cases of sexual harassment in Indian sports. Recently, a female cyclist accused the national coach of inappropriate behavior during a tour of Slovenia. The coach was later sacked and is currently under investigation.

The female (sailing player) also made serious allegations against the coach accompanying her during the foreign tour.

Under-17 World Cup will be held in India this year

India is going to host the Under-17 Women’s World Cup in October later this year. The matches of this tournament will be held in three cities Bhuvneshwar, Goa and Navi Mumbai from 11 to 30 October.

India has been clubbed with USA, Morocco and Brazil in Group A of the tournament. India will start its campaign against the USA on the first day. This will be followed by their matches against Morocco and Brazil on October 14 and 17 respectively. All India group-stage matches will be held at Kalinga Stadium in Bhuvneshwar.
